Director-General
Expressions of interest and nominations, are invited by the Search Committee, for consideration for the post of Director-General of the International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS), from which the present Director-General Professor the Hon Gerald Lalor O.J. retires in 2008.
At present, the main research focus of ICENS is an interdisciplinary programme centred on the remarkable concentrations of a variety of heavy metals, including cadmium and lead in the Jamaican environment, and the
soil » food » human
chain. The work provides excellent research opportunities that are also likely to contribute to applications that provide socio-economic and health benefits for the population. The Centre is well equipped especially for nuclear analytical techniques and operates good computer facilities including GIS and 1 m resolution satellite imagery.
Candidates are expected to have had experience and significant success in research and leadership that should ideally include one or more of the following fields:
- Trace elements in agriculture;
- Trace elements in health;
- Computer applications, including GIS, to environmental problems.
Salary is of the order of J$2 - 2.5 million (1US$ ~66 J$) and is negotiable to some extent; benefits will include return economy airfares (if the appointee is from overseas) for appointee, spouse, and up to 3 children. Other benefits include housing allowance, travel and book grants and contributory pension and health schemes.
