Nuclear Lab
Detection Limits

Nuclear Analytical Services

The nuclear analytical techniques available at ICENS include:

  • Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA)

The table below lists the typical NAA detection limits for selected elements.

  • Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) - EDXRF can analyse all elements between sodium (z = 11) and uranium (z = 92) within a concentration range from parts per million (ppm) to 100%. The typical detection limit ranges from 1 to 100 ppm.
  • Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) analysis - TXRF can analyse most of the elements of the periodic table with detection limits ranging from parts per billion to parts per trillion.

Among these techniques some 42 elements can be analysed in different types of samples, including geological, biological and environmental materials.
