ICENS is located on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies, about 20 km from the Norman Manley International Airport. It occupies an attractive modern air-conditioned building of 950 sq. m. area.


The major instrumentation consists of nuclear and non-nuclear analytical instruments.

 

 

 

Analytical Facilities

Slowpoke Nuclear ReactorNuclear Techniques
The SLOWPOKE 2 nuclear research reactor is used primarily for Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA). NAA is used for analysis of rocks, soil, sediments, air particulates, plant, animal and human tissue.

Computer equipment at ICENS consists of PCs, SUN workstations and LINUX servers.  ICENS has full access to the University of the West Indies wide-area-network via fibre-optic cables with T1 access to the internet.

ICENS operates a Spatial Information Viewing System for the display and interpretation of results. This combines a Geographic Information System (Grass 4.2) with a SQL database (SOLID 2.2).
