Strategies
|
|
|
The strategic research themes of ICENS mainly involve multi-disciplinary studies that are applicable to a number of environmental and resource components: air, water, soils, rocks,
sediments, plants, food animals and humans.
The resulting data, stored in on-line multi-purpose databases and coupled with a Geographic Information System (GIS), are being applied to such areas as agricultural development,
environmental assessment and protection, land use, natural resource identification, animal and human health and nutrition.
ICENS also assists in the development of human resource to make maximum use of these data.
This work presents numerous opportunities for local and international cooperation.
Funding for the development of ICENS and its research has come from many sources. The major donors have been:
- Environmental Foundation fo Jamaica
- Government of Jamaica
- Inter-American Development Bank
- International Atomic Energy Agency
- University of the West Indies
